Today we will talk about the articles in English, I hope you guys like it! :)

Let's be very simple and clear about it!

In English there are three articles A, An and The.

A and An are the indefinite articles and they are used in general situations and the most important they are only used before SINGULAR nouns.

A is only used before consonant sound

Example:

A dog, a cat, a car, a house.

Words that start with E or U and that sound like YOU, for European and University you gotta use A, because this YOU sound is considered consonant sound in English.

Example:

I live close to a University.

An is only used before vowel sound

Example:

An apple, an ice-cream, an elephant.

In some words in English the H is mute, so we have to use AN before the singular noun.

Example:

I have been waiting for you for about an hour.

THE

The article THE is used for specific situations and it can used before singular and/or plural nouns.

Exemple of specific, unique things:

The Sun, The moon. The president of Brazil.

The United States, The United Kingdom.

Countries that like in the example above, must have THE before the name of the country!
